New fractional ownership company commissions first megayachts

A new company has been launched offering a unique scheme for the expanding superyacht market. London based Curvelle has commissioned the build of its first two 33m X 9m superyachts, to be constructed by the award winning Cheoy Lee Shipyard.

With rapidly becoming the cost effective method of enjoying all the benefits of superyacht ownership without many of the hassles, the new Curvelle scheme offers several distinct advantages. Each yacht has its own independent organisation where the asset rests with the who have 100% equity interest and 100% control of the asset. The organisers have no financial interest but can provide assistance and support if desired.

The average superyacht owner uses the yacht personally for around 5 weeks a year, many yachts are either left idle or made available for the occasional charter. The Curvelle scheme offers an 1/8th share of one of its luxury motor yachts for just 1m euros, a fraction of the cost of a new build superyacht of this size and quality. In return, the owner will be guaranteed three weeks aboard his yacht in the Mediterranean during the summer months and two weeks cruising the Caribbean in the winter. The probability that each owner gets the cruising weeks they want is estimated at +80%.

Marketing Director of Curvelle, Luuk V. van Zanten said “The Curvelle scheme aims to bring our owners as close as possible to the flexibility and freedom enjoyed by an outright owner of a luxury motor yacht, while paying only a due proportion of a single owners running costs. The owners are sole shareholders in a company that exists exclusively to own and run the yacht. The shares can be sold and of course if five weeks is insufficient, an owner can buy more shares if available.”

The yachts themselves are exceptionally spacious, being designed around a catamaran hull giving 50% more space than a comparable monohull. The luxury accommodation provides for up to 12 guests in six spacious double staterooms and can be rearranged to even larger suites for fewer guests if the owner requires. The yacht also has ample accommodation for the resident crew. With the superb stability of the catamaran hull the Curvelle 33X9 provides a comfortable home at sea. With the capability of reaching speeds in excess of 25 knots, and a transatlantic range at a more economic speed, the cruising area is therefore extended considerably beyond other yachts of this size. Two teams of six fully qualified crew will be maintained for each yacht and employed by the management company. The only item to concern the owner is which wines should be ordered by the steward for his arrival.
